Victorinox updated the file on the cadet sometime in 2018 to a parallel line style from the random grit style. It seems that the old stock may have finally run out and the new style will be what most new buyers will pick up even in the old packaging showing the old file.

Is the new style terrible? No but it’s different is positive and negatives ways. It goes from edge to edge of the implement and is more aggressive but is less smooth and not as comfortable of a nail file.

If you prefer the old style I’d recommend contacting retailers and searching for one ASAP.
