David Bowie | Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart Documentary Interview | Complete Outtakes | 4 June 1997
This is the complete interview outtakes with David Bowie by filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, shot for his excellent 1998 American Masters film "Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart".
This complete version of the interview adds a further eight minutes to the existing online version.
Bowie talks at length about Lou Reed and the crucial influence the Velvet Underground had on his early musical development. He is as erudite, culturally nuanced and witty as ever and he looks great, in this highly enjoyable interview. The interview commences with mention of Bowie’s 50th birthday concert earlier that year at New York’s Madison Square Garden, in which Lou had joined Bowie on stage. When Lou took to the stage that night, Bowie introduced him as the “King of New York himself, Mr. Lou Reed”.
