"The Ada Ciganlija lake is situated five kilometres from the centre of Belgrade and fellow Belgraders can visit the lake and spend a day here as if they were at a sea resort. That's why Ada is often called 'The Sea of Belgrade.' The beach stretches around the lake for eight kilometres, and there are about seventy restaurants and coffee shops around it. Because of all that, there's a lot of people that are from Belgrade that don't take their vacations abroad to sea resorts and vacation spots, but rather spend their summer holidays at Ada Ciganlija."

When the temperature rises, most city residents dream of the a day at the beach.
For those living in Belgrade, that dream is just a short distance from the urban centre.
STORYLINE:
This is summer in the city - Belgrade style.
With temperatures peaking above 30 degrees celsius (86 degrees fahrenheit), most city dwellers have decided that the best place to be is the beach.
Luckily the Serbian capital has a made-man lake, Ada Ciganlija, just five kilometres (three miles) from the city, which has become a popular swimming and leisure spot since it was created in 1967.
Famous for its Blue Flag pebble beach that encompasses the entire lake, Ada Ciganlija often gets more 150-thousand visitors a day during the scorching summer season - all looking to cool down by swimming at the lake or to relax in one of the beach front restaurants and bars.
Nicknamed "The Sea of Belgrade" due to its popularity, Ada Ciganlija, or Ada for short, has grown to become a landmark and one of the most popular get together spots for locals during the long and hot summer months.
Ada is very popular at weekends, when young people, couples, and entire families visit to take advantage of the eight kilometre (five mile) long beach and have picnics in the deep shades of the surrounding park.
The sheer number of visitors often a time presents a problem, as streets around the lake get congested with heavy traffic and beach goers crowd city bus lines to get there.
