Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (D365BC or just BC for short) is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system from Microsoft.

The product is part of the Microsoft Dynamics family, and is the successor product to Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and Microsoft Dynamics SL.

During 2016 and 2017 Microsoft worked on a new development project code-named ‘Tenerife’. Their goal was to develop a new version of Dynamics NAV, which is a 100% cloud-based version of Dynamics.

During development this product was briefly branded as Dynamics 365 for Financials. But eventually came to market as Dynamics Business Central.

With the introduction of Dynamics BC, Microsoft has folded together all of their Dynamics products, including Dynamics NAV, Microsoft Dynamics AX and CRM. They are now all part of the Dynamics 365 Business Central brand.

So Dynamics 365 BC consolidates all the systems into a single solution, which covers both ERP and CRM and eventually will also include Office 365. The idea is to have a common data model to make integration between systems easier.

With Dynamics BC, Microsoft made a strategic decision to focus its development work on trimming the core functionality of the system. Microsoft’s approach has always been that the solution must be simple and effective.

This strategy means that Microsoft left it up to specialized partners and vendors to develop add-on solutions for functional needs that are unique to specific industries or roles.

So Dynamics 365 BC does not include workflow automation, including AP automation.
