The Farmer Update (Google calls it the Panda Update) was a significant change to Google's search engine algorithm that was rolled out on February 23, 2011. It caused many sites to plummet in search results overnight, and not just the large content farms, which are believed to be the target (hence the nickname the Farmer Update).
