The Biden Administration Restores a Significant Amount of Habitat for Threatened Owls, Reversing Trump's Deep Cuts.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service has tried to rescind a Trump administration decision that would have allowed logging on millions of acres of the owl's West Coast forest habitat.
According to the Endangered Species Act, the bird is imperilled and has already lost around 70% of its habitat.
The owl population has declined by 77 percent in Washington, 68 percent in Oregon, and roughly 50 percent in California over the last three decades.
To safeguard the species from extinction, the federal government set aside important habitat, although this was blamed for a logging slowdown that devastated rural populations.
