For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a very rare 1950 Lagonda Drop Head Coupe. This car is one of 50 produced and who knows how many survived. Lagonda was an English car company with close relations to Aston Martin. They share the same engine that was used in the Aston Martin DB2. Power comes from a silky smooth 2.6 liter inline 6 cylinder with twin overhead cams. Shifting is unique as it is a 4 speed manual shifted via column shift. Most of us are familiar with the old three on the tree, but a 4 speed on the column? Yes, indeed and it works quite well. The car also utilizes an independent rear suspension with inboard drum brakes to reduce unsprung weight. The front suspension is also independent. The term 'Drop Head Coupe" is European for a convertible in the old days. This four passenger luxury machine has suicide doors and plush leather seats. If this was your daily driver in 1950, you were of importance. While your friends were driving the "People's Car"(VW Beetle) you were cruising in this wild machine. This is the kind of car you would see at the Grand Prix at Silverstone parked next to the ERA garage (English Racing Automobiles), the home racing team. This beautiful example has received a complete and detailed restoration. Dark red paint graces the body while soft tan leather with beautiful wood adorning the rest of the interior. Outside you'll notice dual side mirrors mounted on the front fenders and on the doors. There are also dual gas doors, each with lead weights attached to chains to keep the filler doors from opening on their own. Polished stainless steel hinged vent windows offer seamless operability. Turn signals deploy from the side of the car and illuminate. This car screams class and will be a terrific addition for any serious collector. Don't miss this rare opportunity to own an original Lagonda. Call our St. Louis showroom for additional information or swing by for a close look.
