STORYLINE:
Thousands of people gathered in central London to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Traditional lion dancers entertained the crowd in Trafalgar Square, close to the heart of London's Chinatown.
The London celebration is one of the largest outside mainland China and the parade through the capital involved 500 performers.
The year 2016 is the Year of the Monkey – the ninth symbol in the cycle of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac.
The new lunar year officially began on February 8 but the London celebration always takes place on the following Sunday.
