(7 Jun 2014) The aide of a senior political figure in the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic was fatally shot on Saturday.
Maxim Petrukhin, an aide to Denis Pushilin, was killed in Donetsk with separatists claiming the act was an assassination attempt on Pushilin.
A shot up sedan and a trail of blood could be seen at the crime scene in front of an upmarket restaurant in central Donetsk on Saturday.
The exact circumstances of the incident remain unknown.
The shooting comes hours after Petro Poroshenko was inaugurated as the country's new president, calling for a halt in the violence that has gripped the country's easternmost regions.
