After a crazy 6 weeks of winter wonderland with temperatures unusually low giving the patrons of Whistler Blackcomb some of the best and most consistent snow conditions I have ever seen, it finally rained. It spent quite a while raining the day before, above the peak, leaving the mountain in a bit of a mess, let alone the village.
Transitioning out of this weather it was still quite warm up the mountain, just above freezing, meaning that it hadn't yet turned into an ice rink, and in actuality shaped up like a Spring park day. Snow was getting granular and slushy and so it was a perfect day to get my park board out for the first time.
Whistler Blackcomb has once again opened up a Whistler Park after not really having one for two years. Unfortunately it is much smaller than previous years, but still offers a great place to practice and transition up to the medium park on Blackcomb. There are two lines through, more of a jump line on the left, and a jib line on the right. Wait for the jump line was much longer, so mainly focused on jibbing, which is my biggest weakness.
Tips for First Time in Park:
Wear a Helmet
First Run - ride through and watch the lines, speed for jumps, transitions, bottle neck areas and any other hazards that might be present
Second Run - Simple tricks through the park, get a feel for the take offs and landings, and for jibbing the feel of the feature
Progress at your own speed
Ride With Friends - always makes it better
