Get a rare and exclusive look at the cenote Angelita, one of the most unique cenotes of the Mayan Riviera in Mexico just outside of Playa Del Carmen. A cenote is a natural pit resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. The video starts off showing the surrounding areas near Dos Ojos, the Cenote mainly featured in episode 1. Then it transitions to a very different Cenote.
Angelita, though a very special cenote, is essentially a large hole in the ground. At a maximum depth of about 125ft, there are remnants of trees, branches and other plants. It is believed that the ground simply gave way underneath and the ground sank to the bottom. As one descends to the maximum depth, there is a dense sulfur cloud that is wildly entertaining and such a wonderfully disorienting experience. Even with a mask on, one can smell the sulfur, a scent of rotten eggs. It is important not to allow this water to get in the mouth or eyes but overall, it is one of the most unique experiences a diver could ever have.
