The ASU Core Research Facilities house state-of-the-art equipment, including the new Kratos Axis Supra+, an X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) instrument.
What is X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy? XPS is a method of analysis that provides information about the elemental composition and chemical bonding of a sample’s first few atomic layers. This tool helps to understand a sample's electronic band structure and bonding information, among other applications.
The Kratos’ complementary options of Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy (UPS), ion scattering spectroscopy (ISS) and Reflection Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (REELS) make several new measurements possible, such as valence band spectra and electronic work function.
