The City of San Jose announced the launch of a new initiative on The People’s Network to bridge the digital divide and bring innovative Internet of Things infrastructure to its citizens.
San Jose is the very first city to officially join the rapidly expanding ecosystem and use Helium’s blockchain-based incentive model to increase broadband internet access for more than 1,300 low-income families.
The wireless infrastructure enabled by the Hotspots will be used to support San Jose’s Smart City Vision to provide inclusive connectivity and serve as a test lab for innovative pilot programs. Initial pilot programs will aim to improve the delivery of citywide services, such as air quality monitoring, fire detection, climate-related opportunities, and more.
