The United States began rolling out its first round of coronavirus vaccinations this month, after Pfizer and Moderna received approval for their vaccines. So far, research suggests the vaccines are extremely effective at preventing COVID-19 – both have efficacy rates around 95 percent. This is a major step toward controlling the pandemic, as health experts estimate that we need to vaccinate at least 60 to 70 percent of the population to reach herd immunity and help the nation’s economy recover. The vaccines went through an expedited approval process, but health experts are confident in their preliminary data and expect full approval in the next few months.
