We got to experience Samsung's massive 82-inch 8K QLED TV at their experience zone in Gurgaon recently and we played a bunch of SDR and HDR games like Doom, Forza and Gear of War 4 on this 8K TV. We also streamed some of our usual staple clips that we use to test a TV's performance from Netflix shows and YouTube clips. So is this Samsung 8K TV worth the whopping Rs 17 Lakh price tag? 8K is a higher resolution standard than 4K, and an 8K TV like this one from Samsung effectively quadruples the total number of pixels so 8K is 7,680 by 4,320 resolution, or approximately 8,000 horizontal pixels. Now granted 8K content is very limited currently but this TV does a great job upscaling 1080p and 4K content as we experienced when gaming and streaming content on it. The panel is not reflective and considering we streamed all the content we experienced on this, if at times the video looked pixelated, it wasn't the TV's fault but rather the internet.
Another cool thing is that it comes with a One Connect Box with a 5 meter long cable for you to connect all your other devices. So you can actually keep the box somewhere out of sight and have just the one cable connecting to the TV so it doesn't look messy.
The box does support the HDMI 2.1 standard which is necessary for streaming the higher bandwidths that 8K content @60 Hz delivery requires. It also allows for 4K @ 120 Hz and dynamic HDR support for eARC, variable refresh rates and a lot more. Note that while this 8K TV supports HDR10, it does not support Dolby Vision.
The TV comes with an Ambient Mode which basically makes it one big picture frame. You can choose from any of the inbuilt of downloadable pictures or even customize it and have your family snaps playing on it.
The TV supports voice controls which can easily be activated with the remote control. The TV comes with preloaded popular streaming apps like Netflix, Hotstar, Amazon Prime and more.
There is 60W of sound output and two down-firing speakers on this Samsung QLED 8K TV.
