Insulation Resistance Testing is one of those tests that electricians hate doing and the regulations don't really help either, even Amendment 2 really doesn't go far enough to address this test in modern homes.
This is my take on how to do Insulation Resistance Testing. It's how I was taught and I've never been picked up on it by my NAPIT assessors as being incorrect.
I will say this that Yes, I could join Line and Neutral together and test to Earth to get round equipment which mess up Line to Neutral readings (USB sockets for one).
If anyone has any comments, please do so, I would be very interested to hear how other sparkies do this test, if in fact you do it at all, because to be fair, it's not an easy test to do these days with all the DC equipment and LED lights in homes, which mess up Line to Neutral readings.
