Welcome to our cave expedition vlog where, in a series of videos over the next few weeks, I will be taking you with me to two projects we have set up in Croatia and Bosnia to help save fragile underwater cave ecosystems and the rare species that inhabit them.

ABOUT THIS JOURNEY
===============================
To lower our carbon footprint we made the full journey by train!
In Croatia we have funded a cave clean-up in partnership with the Croatian Institute for Biodiversity and with the help of Dusan a colourful character and our contact in the region.
The cave we want to help is home to an underground ecosystem that supports species that can be found nowhere else on earth. This includes creatures as strange and unique as the olm, a blind cave salamander that can live up to a century, the world’s only known subterranean freshwater sponge and species of cave-dwelling fish that are still new to science.
Sadly, some cave entrances have been used for waste disposal for a long time and the resulting pollution poses a serious threat. Our intervention here is simple, clean up the cave and make sure this ecosystem has a future.
In Bosnia, we are funding an expedition to an unexplored submerged cave with the ultimate goal to collect evidence that can be used to campaign against the expansion of industrial activities in this area.
Professional cave divers will have to map the cave and set lines to make navigation possible. They will then explore the cave and carry out biodiversity surveys. The dry parts of the cave will be surveyed by ourselves and our local Bosnian partner because even though I love diving I have nowhere near the experience or training to go on such a complex cave dive.

ABOUT US
===============================
We are a remote and distributed team of nature-loving individuals and as such we run projects in a variety of locations, supporting all kinds of cool wildlife and habitats.
Most of our projects take place where our biologists live which currently is Scotland and Portugal but often we find project opportunities that are too good to pass up such as, on this occasion the magical underwater karst caves of Croatia and Bosnia.
