It may be tempting to think about solving our emerald ash borer problem by planting Asian species of ash trees, but this removes the ecological benefits of the native ash. Our insects can't eat them!
The native ash is a very ecologically important tree!
🌳 95 species of insects that specialize on ashes
🌳 Lots of birds depend on the seeds
🌳 Important for many sphynx moths (primary diet of cardinals)
What we'd like to see is to find the individual species of North American ashes that are resistant to the emerald ash borer, propagate those, and use them to replace the susceptible ash trees.
REGENERATE BIODIVERSITY - GET ON THE MAP
