Recently, I was able to get a quick video of 1 of soon-to-be 36 brand new CNG Pete 520 ZRs! At Waste Expo, I got to talk to someone who sells trucks to Republic Services. He told me that due to the Santa Ana contract, the Anaheim yard is getting 67 new trucks this year, 36 of which are ZRs and 3 of which are electric trucks! I'm assuming the other 28 trucks are front loaders and rolloffs. I was also told that Republic Services is taking WM's Santa Ana yard when the contract begins on July 1st, so the Anaheim yard will be packed with trucks for the remainder of the month. I'm not sure how many of the 67 new trucks will actually be transferred to Santa Ana, but that number could change, and this is certainly 1 of the biggest shipment of trucks I've heard about! Only a handful of ZRs have come in so far, and some have been tested by Brea and Yorba Linda drivers. What's really cool is that the ZRs are numbered 2600-2635. These are duplicated unit numbers, as they were already used for light blue Diesel/dual-fuel Peterbilt 320 Heil Rapid Rails originally bought in the early 2000s, towards the end of the Taormina Industries/Disposal Services era!
Thank you so much to Martin for letting me film and putting up with this truck. Honestly, it's not a bad truck overall, aside from trying to get the grabbers over the curve. Unfortunately, Martin said that the mechanics wouldn't speed the arm up, but I heard he tested 2610 later in the week, so hopefully that was a bit faster. Filming in this neighborhood brought back memories, as this is actually Mike's (3amrepmike3) former neighborhood! I'm sure other filmers that have watched his old Disposal Services videos may recognize some streets/stops. Martin was actually the route driver when Mike filmed here as well, so it's cool that he still does it. Enjoy a brand new truck knocking out some post Memorial Day trash!
