We, of course, do not hold any rights to this transcendent video.
We have brightened the video and changed Arvo Pärt’s music,
“Spiegel Im Spiegel”, to take out the sound of the morning wind
and slightly better fit the choreography.
The video was filmed at sunrise on the morning after a 9/11
remembrance, September 12, 2013. It was filmed on the 57th
floor (thus the wind) of 4WTC in lower Manhattan.
There are several other videos on line of this Christopher
Wheeldon masterpiece, “After the Rain”, but this one with
Maria Kowroski and Ask la Cour rises to a new level of elegance.
The music, “Mirrors in the Mirror”, a fractal infinity mirror,
has two voices~ a melodic voice over diatonic scales, and
another operating within a triad on the tonic. The music
is a lovely iterated function system, like a fractal. The choice
of the music, like all the other artistic choices in the video,
speak to the genius of Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins,
choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, and the entire company
of the New York City Ballet.
