Many countries have tried to claim their sovereignty over Antarctic territories, but none of them has notably achieved their purposes. Although these claims are still in effect, the Antarctic Treaty signed in 1959 establishes the continent as a condominium and a reserve for scientific peaceful meanings exclusively, sharing all the parts equal sovereignty. As the conflict over the natural resources extraction in the arctic moves along, experts and scientists have their concerns on what can happen if this peaceful cohabitation in the austral lands comes to an end.
The Territorial claims in Antarctica will be discussed at the United Nations Security Council Committee at C’MUN 2018!
