When you purchase a generator or even when you start yours up for the first time in a while it's always good to double check the voltage at the outlets. Too much or too little voltage can damage the generator and whatever is plugged into it. If you buy a cheaper model generator like a Raptor , remember you are getting what you paid for! And these units are not coming from an actual servicing dealer. Any time a generator sits for an extended period of time there's always the possibility of gas gumming up in the carb. This can effect the RPMs that the generator is running at which in turn effects the amount of voltage being sent to the outlets. For the few seconds it takes to check this it is WELL worth it especially if you are plugging anything of value into the generator. I recently came across a Champion brand generator that someone tried to play shade tree mechanic with. They "Tuned it up" themselves and luckily didn't plug anything into before they checked the voltage because they had the RPMs too high and the generator was putting out 136 volts!!
