As Christmas approaches, uncover the incredible story behind Jan Gossaert’s The Adoration of the Magi at The National Gallery.
With Christmas just days away, join @christianart as we step inside the walls of The National Gallery in London’s West End to visit Jan Gossaert’s The Adoration of the Magi (1515). Fr. Patrick van der Vorst carefully examines this large and intricate nativity scene, drawing attention to its fascinating details, characters, and hidden elements—such as Gossaert’s signature, subtly inscribed in gold on the cloth beneath Balthasar's crown.
Before opening hours, Fr. Patrick gains exclusive access to Room 15, home to Gossaert’s masterpiece and other works by renowned Flemish painters, including Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait (1434).
