This training will serve as an introductory module for providers to develop an understanding of substance use. There will be discussion of culturally responsive approaches to working with families who are impacted by substance use, and basic vocabulary and language to understand when discussing substance use in a clinical setting.
About the presenter:
Gabrielle Jones, Ph.D., a native of Hayward California, earned her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology at Oklahoma State University. During her graduate training, Dr. Jones worked for the state of Oklahoma in their Juvenile Affairs Department conducting full assessment batteries and providing mental health treatment to incarcerated youth. Dr. Jones spent four years as a licensed psychologist at Kaiser Permanente in the Addiction Medicine and Recovery Services Department, working with adults and specializing in adolescents with substance use concerns. In this role, Dr. Jones assisted in the development of multiple Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Programs. Dr. Jones spent 2 years as a clinical services supervisor at Rogers Behavioral Health, where she co-authored various manuals to be utilized nationally throughout the system for the Mental Health and Recovery Service line. Dr. Jones has taught addiction courses at Palo Alto University and UC Berkeley Extension, and served as the board chair for a local non-profit in Oakland, Centerforce, servicing the re-entry population and their families and serves on the Miles Hall Foundation Board to advocate for reducing killings of BIPOC members during mental health crises.. Currently, Dr. Jones is the founder of Steady LLC, Clinical Consultation, Training and Development Services and in addition, carries a small caseload of individual clients.
