I continue my progression with short landings (STOL), aiming not only to land short, but to hit the touchdown "mark" consistently. The distances were guestimate-measured on the ground from the aiming point, not the actual point where the wheels first touch down. The aiming point is 15 meters / 50 feet from the runway edge
Airfield conditions at the time:
Airfield elevation = 4,780 feet
Density altitude = 6,500 feet
Wind = 0 knots
Brakes = Applied fully after flaps retracted and wheels firmly on the ground
Approach speed = 52-55 mph IAS - this is as slow as I will go with the airplane as it is now.
The Bushbaby doesn't have enough up elevator at low airspeed (tailplane trim possibly not correct). The wing is clean and does NOT have vortex generators on. With the Rotax 582, 65hp engine, I don't have the power to approach behind the drag curve and can't power myself out of trouble.
Full disclosure, I don't plan to compete or fly into dangerous spots, I am just working on improving my own short landings skill with the taildragger.
