The City Council is one step closer to approving a 2025 budget, but Mayor Brandon Johnson's revised spending plan — which still includes an unpopular property tax increase — is expected to face a very close vote by the council on Friday. After a pair of City Council committees gave their approval to the mayor's $17.3 billion budget package by razor-thin margins on Tuesday, alders were in council chambers Wednesday for procedural steps ahead a full vote that's expected Friday — a vote both Johnson allies and opponents say could be close, perhaps even a tie.
