#dricusduplessis #israeladesanya #seanstrickland This is an Excerpt from my documentary "Why Dricus Du Plessis is the last African Champion" where Lionel Rivera breaks down the entire career and legacy of South African UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis. Dricus Du Plessis is a South-African born MMA fighter who made his pro debut at EFC 21 in 2013, immediately racking up a 4-fight win streak to earn an EFC middleweight title shot against Garreth McLellan at EFC 33. Unfortunately, Dricus Du Plessis suffered his first loss when he was submitted by Garreth McLellan via guillotine. After this loss, Dricus Du Plessis racked up a massive win streak, captured the EFC welterweight championship by submitting Martin Van Staden, won the EFC middleweight championship by submitting Yannick Bahati, won the KSW welterweight championship by knocking out Roberto Soldic. However, Dricus Du Plessis suffered his second-ever loss when Roberto Soldic knocked out Dricus Du Plessis at KSW 45. Dricus quickly rebounded and made his UFC debut against Marus Perez in 2020, where Dricus Du Plessis knocked out Markus Perez. Dricus then knocked out Trevin Giles at UFC 264, and defeated Brad Tavares at UFC 276, submitted Darren Till at UFC 282, finished Derek Brunson at UFC 285, knocked out Robert Whittaker at UFC 290, and finally defeated Sean Strickland at UFC 297. Along the way, Dricus Du Plessis developed a rivalry to former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, with the two disputing over what became "The real African Controversy." Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis would meet at UFc 305 in 2024.
