코로나 확산에 학교도 폐쇄… 낙타 도서관 기다리는 파키스탄 아이들
Welcome, it's time for the 'World Now'. Bringing you some of the most interesting news from around the globe, I'm Eum Ji-young.
Normally, you wouldn't expect to see a camel with a bunch of books on its back,... but in Pakistan, it's a sight that you can encounter.
Roshan the camel is on a very important mission,... as dozens of children wait for him and his cargo of books,... the so-called the 'camel library'.
"When the camel comes, first I try to read the books myself. If I do not understand, I ask the teacher."
Roshan makes the journey on alternate week days and delivers books to four different villages.
The camel library opens for two to three hours and children get to borrow the books they like and return them when the library comes back again.
Due to a surge in COVID-19 infections, Pakistan closed its schools,...sending more than 50 million school and university students home.
The head of the camel library project said she began the project last August because, despite schools being closed, she wanted children in remote villages to continue learning.
