The Stone Forest of Madagascar, also known as Tsingy de Bemaraha, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in western Madagascar. It is made up of towering, jagged limestone pinnacles that have been formed over millions of years from sedimentary rock that was uplifted and exposed to the elements. The pinnacles reach up to 100 meters (328 feet) in height and have created a series of narrow crevices and canyons throughout the stone forest, which provide habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals. The area is home to over 70 species of birds, including the Madagascar fish eagle and the crested ibis, as well as many species of lemurs, including the critically endangered black and white ruffed lemur, and a number of reptile species, including chameleons and geckos. Visitors can explore the stone forest on foot or by car, with guided tours available to help navigate the challenging terrain. The stone forest is also home to small villages and cultural sites.
