(23 Nov 2014) Polling for the Tunisian election closed at 1700GMT on Sunday, drawing a close to the first free election in the country since the fall of dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011.
Even as the last voters cast their ballots rumours about the results began to leak out, however the first official preliminary results will only be announced in a couple of days according to the Independent Higher Authority for the Elections.
Polls closed Sunday evening with no major incidents or violence reported at polling stations.
It hasn't been easy for Tunisia, however, and the nearly four years since the revolution have been marked by social unrest, militant attacks and a high inflation rate that has led voters to punish the moderate Islamists that first came to power.
Strikes, social unrest and occasional political assassinations have kept away foreign investment and the economy foundered after the revolution as an Islamist-led coalition government struggled with the country's problems.
Out of the nearly two dozen candidates for the presidency, the person most feel can deliver on the twin issues of jobs and security is Beji Caid Essebsi, an 87-year-old former Minister from the previous administrations who many are hoping will get the country back on track.
