US President Barack Obama is seeking the support of other G20 leaders for possible military action against the Syrian government.
On Friday, the second day of the summit, Obama will have separate meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Francois Hollande.
The topic of Syria was discussed at a dinner on Thursday. Fifteen leaders reportedly expressed their views on the issue. One of them called on the international community to issue a united message against Syria.
Another raised the question of how the UN Security Council should be involved in the matter.
Russia, which chairs the summit, remains strongly opposed to any military action against Syria.
The G20 summit will close on Friday after adopting a joint statement.
