Gandhiji said, ‘Intellectually, mentally and spiritually, woman is equivalent to a male and she can participate in every activity”. From Sita in ‘Ramayana’ to Jhansi’s Rani Lakshmibai are not only celebrated women but has also contributed to social change and awareness had been immense. India is the original home of the mother Goddesses. Women in India have always been honoured and respected.
India is very fortunate to have had numerous great women, Mrs, Vijaylaksmit Pandit- the first Indian woman President of UN General Assembly, Sarojini Naidu to Indira Gandhi only the second woman Prime Minister in the world to Kalpana Chawla to Pratibha Patil, first woman President of India and many more whose contribution have proved to be more than a match. Their contribution to society in whole and to Women in particular is invaluable. A woman is an epitome of love, sacrifice, care and ability to nurture life. On this women’s day we will remember the ‘First’ Indian woman, noting the first time an Indian woman achieved something.
