United Nations, New York, 24 July 2009 - Noon briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy briefed the Security Council in its open meeting this morning on the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

He told the Council that there have been several changes in the security situation in Darfur in recent months. Large-scale violence and displacement of civilians are no longer seen, although localised attacks continue.

Mr Le Roy also added that there has been a deterioration in the relations between Sudan and Chad.
