The CEO of Dublin's Fairview Park Hospital is stepping down next summer.
Don Avery took on the job in 2008. Now, after 16 years in the role, he plans to spend more time with family and volunteering when he retires next summer. His last day on the job will be July 3, but he'll still remain in Dublin with his family.
He said the hospital's had a lot of growth in the nearly two decades he's worked there. When he first arrived, he said there was a lot of work ahead of him.
"Changed our reputation from where people didn't wanna come here, there was derogatory names, to when people thought of Fairview Park they thought of excellence," Avery said.
He said he worked hard to change the reputation, by first changing the company culture.
"We call it the 'Fairview family' but that's really who we are," Avery said. "I think the reason we take good care of patients is we take care of each other first."
