Thumbnail: Why India wants to go ahead with P-75 India project?
On April 30, France's Naval Group, which was one of the five OEMs that is, Original Equipment Manufacturers, shortlisted for the Navy's P-75 India project to build six conventional submarines in India, declared that it will not bid for the project. The reason France’s Naval Group said was that, the Request for Proposal RFP, “requires that the fuel cell AIP be sea proven…which is not the case for us since the French Navy does not use such a propulsion system.” AIP refers to Air-Independent Propulsion, a technology for conventional submarines that is, non-nuclear.
