There is a colony of Mitsumata in the north part of Ayabe city. This area is called Oitomi-cho. The area is known as a home of water source in Ayabe. The entire field around here gets covered in gentle yellow flowers of Mistumata. The name of Mitsumata stands for 3-way splitting plant. ( Mitsu = 3 + Mata = crotch ). Take a close look at the stems of this plant. You will notice why it is called Mitsumata. The same place is also a colony of a type of Iris called Shaga. The flower period of Shaga is between April and May. They provide a course to explore the beautiful surroundings rich in nature. Along the way to approach the colony there is a place to accommodate visitors. This location is quite far in the north-west of Ayabe city along route 1. If you keep going along route 1 soon you will arrive at Takahama-cho which is famous for beautiful beaches. Takahama is a part of Fukui prefecture.
