Anthony Albanese is forcing a member from his left-wing faction through as the Labor candidate for the NSW seat of Barton at the next election.
News Political Editor Andrew Clennell claims the Prime Minister will be “steamrolling” the NSW head office of the Labor Party in the process and causing “angst within that division”.
“The National Executive of Labor at a meeting at 5pm on Friday, resolved, using numbers from the left and the PM’s vote to push the pre-selection through to National Executive,” he said.
“In a move that will see Albanese’s preferred candidate Ashvini Ambihaipahar pre-selected for the seat – but this move was made amid heated protest from the NSW right.”
