An insanely hot race with the Kumho BMW Championship. Ambient temperature over 34 degrees celsius and oil temperature over 150! Which the engine and ECU really didn’t appreciate. As ever, you’re onboard with me, Jason West, in the Underscore Racing BMW M3 at Donington Park’s National Circuit in Leicestershire. It was a mildly nerve wracking race that risked expensive things happening to the engine due to badly cooked oil.
We got a half sensible start but ran wide into turn one, letting James Card through to the lead. Managed about 4 laps chasing James before the engine started to overheat its oil (weirdly water temps were fine). It was then a juggling act between keeping ahead of Russ Dack and not blowing the engine to bits!
Was very happy to see the chequered flag but then came across Kev Denwood’s heavily crashed Compact half way down Craner Curves. Thankfully Kev was more or less OK with suspected broken ribs the worst of the damage. The car, however, will take a bit more fixing. Get well soon Kev, and hopefully see you back out for the last round at Oulton Park!
As you can see, we’ve added yet more complication to our video setup! 2 new high def cameras and some very cool new Tyre Pressure and Temperature monitors from [ Ссылка ] that give live tyre pressures and 16 temperature readings per tyre. Will be heading to a race track in September to do a full review of our cool new tech :-)
The sound is a bit off in this video as one of the microphones stopped working, all fixed for race 2 though, which I’ll publish next week.
