Hi! 👋🏻 If you’re new here, FOLLOW me for toddler tips from a pediatric OT and mom of twins. 👶🏼👶🏼
Many kiddos start showing food selectivity around age 2-3 years. If it significantly impacts your child’s food intake, make sure you keep your child’s provider in the loop. The following are strategies to manage typical “picky” eating:
🍓Present all foods in a neutral tone. Saying things like “I know you don’t like blueberries” when you serve them can set your child up to refuse them. State what is on the menu in a neutral tone.
🍑Keep introducing foods your child “doesn’t like.” Evidence shows that it can take 15-20 introductions before a child will taste a new food. So don’t remove it from the menu just because they don’t “like” it!
🍋Make mealtimes peaceful. Meals are not a good time for grown up discussions about stressful topics. Let your littles see you enjoying food at mealtimes.
🍊Try not to draw too much attention to what your kiddo is eating or place pressure on them to keep eating. Pressure can cause a power struggle and actually make picky eating worse.
