Gauteng Premier, David Makhura and Members of the Executive Council brief members of the media on a comprehensive action plan which incorporates plans of municipalities of Gauteng to curb the spread of COVID-19.
This follows a special Provincial Executive Council meeting, including District and Metropolitan Mayors which sat on Monday, 16 March 2020.
The special EXCO sitting comes after the extraordinary pronouncement made by President Cyril Ramaphosa, including declaring COVID-19 a national disaster and various measures to contain the spread of the pandemic.
The Executive Council reiterates the importance of all South Africans to take necessary measures to intensify hygiene control during this time. The Executive Council urges residents of Gauteng not to do panic shopping. The Gauteng Government will engage retail stores to apply restrictions on items bought.
