How does mileage actually affect the power output of a car?

Well, about two hours ago (at time of writing) @HubNut came out to the world and revealed that his Citroen Berlingo HDI does not produce much power.
I then wondered whether a Xsara Picasso with the same engine (2.0 HDI 90) and 512,000 miles under the wheels could match, or even beat said Berlingo.

The results are...interesting.
