Foot pain can come in many different varieties. And when our feet are painful it affects everything in our life. Working in sports medicine we see a lot of patients whose passion in running and training for a 5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon, marathon, or even a 50K or 50 mile race (I know the insane distance events go even higher!) Injury prevention is so important. And a little knowledge goes a long way to preventing overuse running injuries.
In this video I demonstrate a simple test you can do at home in 30-seconds with your running shoes (or any shoes for that matter) to see if abnormal wear patterns in the sole of your running shoes is causing imbalances in your walking or running gait. These imbalances can lead to acute and chronic foot pain. That foot pain could show up as heel pain, plantar fascial pain, big toe pain, bunions, etc.
A leading cause of pain in the muscles, joints, and tendons of the body is inflammation. And the cause of that inflammation most times is improper biomechanics. Simply: something not moving the way it was intended to which leads to friction or overuse and that leads to swelling, redness, heat, and pain. No fun!
Before you go to another physiotherapy or chiropractic appointment for foot pain or heel pain try this simple test at home on your shoes and see if your shoes need to be replaced or if your shoes could be the cause of your foot pain / heel pain. Life is too short to not be able to go out and enjoy all the wonderful activities around us. Get out of pain today!
