The Yazidi god 'Melek Tawus', who is worshipped as a peacock, bears semblance to the Hindu god Muruga (Kartikeya). However, peacocks are not native to the lands where the Yazidis reside. The Yazidis also perform a ritual similar to the Hindu 'aarati' and sport tilaks on their foreheads.

What explains these similarities?

There are other such similarities between Hinduism and other ancient religions as well, like the Slavic and Greek religions.
