(4 Feb 2016) Morocco is showing off its new solar power plant on the edge of the Sahara desert.
Situated just outside the city of Ouarzazate to the south of the Atlas Mountains, the first phase of the Noor solar plant has been completed and was set to be opened by Morocco's King Mohammed VI later on Thursday.
It uses trough shaped mirrors to heat a salt solution to extreme temperatures to power steam turbines.
It is expected to eventually produce 160 megawatts (mw). Further extension of the facility is planned.
French and Spanish officials are expected to attend the official opening.
