NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee predicts the state government’s decision to drop price caps and increase royalties on coal will be “challenging for the industry”.
“A 30 per cent to 40 per cent tax increase is a big hike for the coal sector in New South Wales,” Mr Galilee told Sky News Australia.
“It could’ve been a lot worse, Laura, we could’ve had a Queensland-style system recklessly imposed on our sector, which would have caused havoc across the industry.”
