The COVID-19 pandemic has affected not only the health of the people but also their income and livelihood. To address this, the City Government of San Jose del Monte in Bulacan created the Cash-for-Work Program.
The city government's Cash-for-Work program is a P250 million LGU-funded stimulus program that augmented the national “ayuda” which did not cover many residents who needed help. The program hired displaced construction workers to repair 54 barangay school buildings in their own barangays. Over seven months, some P45M was paid as wages for carpenters, masons, painters and other laborers laid off from construction projects or those with jobs outside SJDM but had to choose whether to work outside but not return to SJDM during the lockdown or stay in the city.
