Note:

Surge occurs when the head across the Evaporator and condenser become greater than Compressor head (0.3 - 1.3 DP) with in 7 seconds the direction of of the flow reverses through the compressor, as cooler pressure rises, the compressor pumps again and refrigerant flow normalizes, often the cycle repeats itself until the condition changes or chiller shutdown.
