On 8/21/2020, we took our Aquaglide Navarro kayaks on the Rio Chama in New Mexico. I LOVE this day run! We ran it both on the 21st and the 22nd because the Rio Grande is so low, and I didn't feel like portaging my boat all day. On Friday, there was no one on the river to speak of, and I was surprised that Saturday was light for paddling.
The Rio Chama day-run is about 5 miles, taking about 3.5 hours, and the landscape is stunning! I wish that I could have taken more photographs over the video to capture this place's essence. With beautiful cliffs, this is the landscape that inspired Georgia O'Keeffe, and we had Class II and III rapids. I had planned for us to go to Utah and paddle the Grand Canyon this year, but massive crowds at the National Parks nixed that idea. There is plenty of free camping, and I recommend getting an early start, even at an elevation of 6300 ft, it was a scorcher!
