As one of the most densely forested mountains in Europe, Tara is marked by vast expanses of woodland. Packed full of the incredible richness of flora and fauna, the forests of Tara instigated a formal decision to protect this area and to establish a National Park in 1981.
The inaccessible and secluded habitats of Tara have enabled the survival of the largest and most significant bear population in Serbia. It is estimated that there are about 60 bears in the National Park area.
It is estimated that almost 200,000 guests visit Tara every year. In this area, there are 30 hiking trails and 3 bicycle route. It is possible to hire a bicycle at the Visitor Centre in Mitrovac.

The clear waters of Tara National Park provide one of the most beautiful fishing areas, characterized by high quality water and exceptionally abundant fish stocks. There is a possibility of renting a fishing boat with a guide for the entire fishing area of the Park, as well as accommodation.
Zaovinsko Lake is another attraction that is difficult to resist. This artificial lake at the altitude of 880 meters attracts bathers during the summer.
The National Park also houses the 13th-century Rača Monastery, as well as the 14th-century tombstones that are valuable remnants of medieval Serbian cultural heritage.
The unspoiled nature of the area will most certainly inspire every visitor's genuine enthusiasm. Tara National Park, with all its magnificence, natural beauty and traditional hospitality, is certainly something to be seen and experienced.
