Before I had TKR in November 2023, I talked to as many people as possible about their experience and recovery and watched tens of video testimonials. None of that ultimately prepared me for my own experience, because the reality is that a surgery this invasive is highly subjective for everyone who goes through it.
I don't normally speak about my personal life on this channel, but thought I'd share my own experience with the surgery, aftermath, and recovery process, specifically from the perspective of someone who rides motorcycles for a living and is a dedicated amateur cyclist (this first year with the new knee, I am on track to hit 5000 miles). To anyone else preparing for this surgery, I hope this video answers some potentially unasked questions!
TLDR; like almost everyone else I heard from, I am amazed by my results and quality of life one year on and wish I had gotten this done sooner. At the same time, the first month of recovery was beyond brutal and much worse than I anticipated, with a lot of unexpected factors like severe sleep deprivation, inflammation, and what felt like super slow progress.
